Zenith Zenette 4G800-Z

This is a another funny Zenith portable Radio from 1947/48.

Zenith Zenette 4G800-Z with open lid

The late 40ies Zenith Zenette, model number 4G800-Z, was build in 3 colors: white, maroon and black. The enclosure is complete of bakelit, with a flip lid. In the lid a loop antenna is build-in. Opening the lid turns the radio on.

The radio is build for operating on 117VAC or VDC or from batteries. From the electronical design it is a typical Zenith AM radio, just very small, also for a portable. Rectification is done by a Selen rectifier.

Chassis number is 4E41Z. I've found on the web the schematic for chassis 4E41, but with 1 major difference: power amplifier is 3Q4. Looks like Zenith changed here some details of the layout as they did often: 4E41Z (.gif 169k).

Finally I decided to give this nice Zenette as a gift to a good friend in Vienna.
