Zenith AM/FM Radio Y832

I have rebuild a Zenith AM/FM radio from 1956 for Maguette. I choosed this one because of the full scale FM band up to 108+ MHz. This is a difference to German and European Radios from this era which had a limited FM band, usually in the 50ties up to 100 MHz.

The Zenith radio has an impressive tube complement, consisting of:

6BJ6 RF Amplifier
6AB4 AFC
12AT7 Converter
12BA6 1st IF
12BA6 2nd IF
12AU6 Limiter
19T8 Discriminator, 1st Audio
35C5 Power Amplifier

Chassis number is 8Y02, model number is Y832. Thanks to Klaus Bayer and Walter Haring I got the schematic and the alignement instructions:

8y02 Alignement (.gif 174k)

The Y832 radio is from 1956. It is a AC/DC design for 117V without main transformer. I replaced the old Selen rectifier with a BY500/800 diode and all of the PS caps.

The tuning capabilities are excellent. The radio is doing a really good job to get Maguette's favorite radio station FFN on 101.9 MHz. It is a 3 speaker design which sounds really big.

I'm did a similar Job with another Zenith model of this era, a 117V AC portable with AM/FM, for Maguette's girl friend Heidi. You can find it on my Zenith K725 page.
