Zenith Trans-Oceanics and Companions

A Trans-Oceanic 8G005 with a really happy couple ;-)

Beside of the really antique Three Dialers my interests in old tube radios are concentrating on Zenith's portable wavemagnet radios, the famous Trans-Oceanics and Companions. Generally the multi-band radios were called Trans-Oceanics, while the (mostly) AM-only radios were called Companions.

Great resources on the web about Trans-Oceanics can be found by on Zenith Trans-Oceanic Page from Padgett Peterson (who is also running great Hickok and Army tube tester pages)

Another excellent source for Trans-Oceanic stuff is the Trans-Oceanic Resource Library of Nostalghia Air, managed by Chris G. Hollingsworth: Trans-Oceanic Resource Library

And there is one must-have book about this radios:

John H. Bryant and Harold N. Cones: "The Zenith Trans-Oceanic - The Royalty of Radios", Atglen/Pennsylvania 1995

Now let's have a look on my Zenith portable radios:

  • The first Trans-Oceanic I got is a H500 model, build in 1953:

Zenith Trans-Oceanic H500

  • Next one is a Companion 6G601 from 1942:

Zenith Universal Companion 6G601

  • Arrrived is a Trans-Oceanic 8G005 from 1948, a new restoration project:

Zenith Trans-Oceanic 8G005TZ1

  • It is not a Wavemagnet radio, but a nice Zenith portable radio in a leather case:

Zenith Carousel Z404L

  • Another small Zenith portable from 1947/48:

Zenith Zenette 4G800-Z
